William Bolin Crow, 90, passed away peacefully on Monday, October 10, 2016 in Weatherford, TX after suffering with Alzheimer's disease. He lived most of his life in Abilene, Portland, and Coleman Texas. He was born March 18, 1926 in Dallas, Texas to Robert and Hazel Chappell. After the death of his father, his mother married Dr. Edward Crow who adopted Bill. He was in the first graduating class of Abilene Christian High School. Shortly after graduation he was drafted into the United States Army. He later volunteered for parachute jump school where he served as a Company First Sergeant with the 11th Airborn in Japan. During the Korean War he served as an Executive Officer. After serving in Korea, he returned to Abilene and became Sergeant Major at the Abilene Texas Area Induction Station. While living in Portland Texas with his wife Jolene Williams Crow, he continued his career as a jeweler. He was a member of the Portland Church of Christ and the Gateway Church of Christ. During his stay in Portland he served as President of the Coastal Bend Council on Alcoholism. On October 28th of this year he would have celebrated 52 years of sobriety. He also served as a member of the City Council and Mayor of Portland Texas. Following the death of his wife Jolene, of 49 years, he married Noma M. Henderson. They lived in Coleman Texas and were together until her death in 2012. He continued his passionate career as a jeweler in Abilene until his retirement in 2013. While in Coleman, he served as an elder for the Elm Street Church of Christ. He was extremely proud of his family. He is survived by his two daughters, Crystal Steele and her husband, Michael, of Jackson, TN, and Carrie Hunnicutt and her husband, Scott of Weatherford, TX; his step-daughter, Terri Horn of Tulsa, OK; four grandchildren and their spouses, David and Jennifer Steele; Julie and Bryan Patterson, Hali and Ryan Pickett, and Zack Hunnicutt; four great-grandchildren; his loving sister-in-law, Flosi Stovall of Abilene; and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be Friday, October 14, 2016 from 2:00 - 3:00 PM. at Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home, 5701 Highway 277 South, in Abilene with the funeral following at 3:00 PM with Bob Martin, preacher of Elm Street Church of Christ in Coleman officiating. Burial will follow the service in the Elliott-Hamil Garden of Memories Cemetery.
