COLUMBIA - A funeral service for William C. “Bill” Tracey, 91, will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, May 24, 2017, at Dunbar Funeral Home, Devine Street Chapel, with burial following in Elmwood Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. Tuesday, May 23, 2017 at the funeral home.

Mr. Tracey passed away Thursday, May 18, 2017. Born on July 19, 1925 in Cliffwood Beach, New Jersey, he was a son of the late Vincent Francis Tracey and Stella Lambertson Tracey.

Bill served in the U.S. Marine Corps in the dive bomber and fighter squadrons during World War II. He was a charter member of the 157th Fighter Squadron and 169th Fighter Wing of the South Carolina Air National Guard. Bill served in a Civilian Capacity as an inspector to the Inspector General Corps in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. He retired from the U.S. Postal Service as a Postal Facility Engineer after 32 years of service. After retirement, he worked at Binswanger Management Company as a Regional Property Manager from 1983 until 1994.

He was a member of the American Legion Post 6, Marine Corp League, Palmetto Marine Establishment, and the Celebrate Freedom Foundation in Columbia.

Surviving are his sons, William Stephen Tracey of Fresno, California and Vincent Francis Tracey (Eleanor) of Springs, Texas; daughter, Monica Tracey Williams of Chapin; grandchildren, Jason T. Williams, Susan T. Johnson, Shannon Craig, and Gillian Tracey; great-grandchildren, Rion, Aiden, Elijah, and Gabby; brother, Michael R. Tracey of Newberry; and very special friends, Paula Haynes and Nancy and Chipper Refo.

In addition to his parents, William was predeceased by his wife of 60 years, Ada Weaver Tracey.
