Born October 13, 1944 in Fort Sill, Oklahoma to William and Mary Christine McCurdy, passed away on July 10, 2017 at the age of 72. William graduated from Mason High School in 1962. He went to work as a carpenter framing many of the homes and apartments in the Lansing area. He enjoyed drag racing his cars at Onondaga Dragway with friends in the early days of the muscle car era. After many years working for others, Bill decided to start his own construction business and continued building in the area. He eventually became a Construction Manager and traveled to Wyoming, North Dakota and Colorado building hotels. He taught those around him lifelong skills in the building trades and helped many of his friends and family build their first homes.
William was an avid car enthusiast all his life and enjoyed working on motorcycles and hot rods. He spent his free time in his shop tinkering on other various projects as well. He said the sound of the V-8 engine spoke to his soul. William also enjoyed going to car shows and swap meets with his closest friends. He would always find something at swap meets he simply couldn't live without.
William's generosity was unlimited. You could find him lending a helping hand to his family and others, providing rides to his sister, helping a nephew build a barn, and working on loved ones cars for them. The list goes on and on. His love for his two children was second to none. His swan song was remodeling his daughter's home in Denver and building his sons cabin in Grayling.
William was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Kenneth and Richard McCurdy. Surviving to cherish his memory are his son, Chad (Lisa) McCurdy; daughter, Tisha (Chris) McCurdy; granddaughters, Savannah Rae and Ella Teresa McCurdy; sisters, Estella (Rodney) Atherton and Christine French; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, July 14, 2017 at the Mason First United Methodist Church, 201 E. Ash St., Mason, MI 48854 with the Rev. Donna Minarik officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
