William H. Reel, 87, of Battle Creek, died Friday, March 27, 2015 at home. He was born November 21, 1927 in Soddy, Tennessee to Dexter and Vergie (Brown) Reel. He served as a mechanic in the U.S. Army in World War II and in Korea. He was stationed in Cividale and Cortina, Italy. He enjoyed skiing in the Swiss Alps in his time off. He later served in a Bridge Company in Korea. During a fire fight, he was pinned down in his Captain's foxhole. He enjoyed fishing in his spare time while in Korea. He worked 46 years as a cross-county truck driver and had a brilliant memory and seldom used maps. Surviving are son, Marvin (Marsie) Reel of Ceresco; daughter, Connie (Russ) Rugg of Bellevue and daughter-in-law, Katrinka Reel, of Battle Creek; grandchildren, Jason (Jen) Reel, Jeremy (Angela) Reel, Hannah (Josh) Brown, Gordy Stine, Sara and R.J. Rugg of Bellevue; great grandchildren, Anna and Oliver Reel of Portage. He was preceded in death by his wife, Dortha Mae (Pendergrass) Reel in 2012 and a son, William Dean Reel in 1990. Visitation, 5 until 7:00 p.m., Monday, March 30, 2015 at Shaw Funeral Home. Funeral 1:00 p.m., Tuesday, March 31, 2015 at the funeral home.
