Gum, William H., age 87, of Kettering passed away on Saturday, September 30, 2017 at Hospice of Dayton. He was preceded in death by his parents, Harold D. and Christine C. (Sperling) Gum , his brother, Don R. Gum and his son-in-law, Shawn Bowers. William is survived by his loving wife of 67 years, Patricia A. (Shillito) Gum; his son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Theresa L. Gum; his daughter, Margaret E. Bowers; 2 sisters-in-law, Janet Gum and Betty Little: a brother-in-law, Les Detrick; grandchildren, Shelby D. Bowers, Jonathan (Ashley) Gum, Jeff (Melanie) Crass, Melissa (Stephen) Sheets, Sean Walker and a great-granddaughter, Giana Gum. He is also survived by many other relatives and friends. William was a 50 year member of the Optimists, where he served as Optimist Governor of Ohio and Optimist International Vice-President. He was a retired Real Estate Broker with many interests including travel, trains and anything involving Dayton History. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, October 11, 2017, at the TOBIAS FUNERAL HOME-BEAVERCREEK CHAPEL, 3970 Dayton-Xenia Road at Grange Hall Road with Pastor Chris McClure officiating. Entombment will follow in Woodland Cemetery Mausoleum. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 4-8 p.m. on Tuesday, October 10, 2017.
