COLUMBIA - A funeral service for William James “Jim” Sarvis, 85, will be held at 2:00 p.m. Monday, December 18, 2017 at Suber-Marshall Memorial United Methodist Church, with burial in Greenlawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 1:00 until 2:00 p.m. prior to the service at the church. Dunbar Funeral Home, Devine Street Chapel, is assisting the family.
Mr. Sarvis died Tuesday, December 12, 2017. Born in Loris, SC, he was a son of the late Lucille Dutton Sarvis and Hyman M. Sarvis. He was a barber at Fort Jackson then became Area Supervisor at Gino Morena Enterprises later retiring after 37 years. He was a member of Pacific Masonic Lodge #325, York Rite and Jamil Shrine Temple. A longtime member of Suber-Marshall Memorial UMC, he was an avid fisherman who loved the mountains.
Surviving are his daughters, Susan Long (Sam) and Vicki Proctor; grandchildren, Alex Long (Heather), James Long (Dena), Mary Proctor and Sarah Proctor; great-grandchildren, Lainey, Lilly Grace, Sallie, and Samuel; sisters, Jean Watts and Wanda Prince (Dan); sister-in-law, Rebecca Sarvis; and brother-in-law, Ray Canady, Sr.
He was predeceased by his wife of 57 years, Doris Gore Sarvis; great-grandson, Watson Long; sisters, Gwen Ulmer and Linda Canady; and brother, Robert Sarvis.
