COLUMBIA - William Jenkins Marsh peacefully entered into his eternal rest on January 1, 2018. He was at his home, surrounded by family members and dear friend, Mrs. Diane Wadford.

Born in Aulander, North Carolina on July 25, 1926, he graduated from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 1947 with a BS Degree in Commerce. He worked in the insurance business for five decades, working with Traveler’s in Charlotte and Boyle-Vaughn, Keenan, and Adams and Eaddy agencies in Columbia. His seniority and expertise earned him the nickname “Godfather of Surety Bonds.”

He attended Eastminster Presbyterian Church and was active in his Sunday School class. He avidly studied Southern history, with expertise in the War Between the States. He supported his sons as a Boy Scout Leader and parent volunteer for multiple athletic teams. Mr. Marsh loved the outdoors, overjoyed by birddogs working a covey of quail and by catching a bass from the black waters of the Chowan River. He deeply loved his family and friends.

William was predeceased by his wife of 57 years, Martha. He is survived by his sons, William H. Marsh, MD. and Stephen S. Marsh, MD.; daughters-in-law, Pamela and Karen; and grandchildren, Hannah, Roy, Sam, Nathan, and Courtney.

The family will welcome friends at Dunbar Funeral Home, Devine Street Chapel, on Thursday, January 4, 2018 from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. The funeral service will be at Eastminster Presbyterian Church on Friday, January 5, 2018 at 1:00 p.m. Burial will be in the Aulander North Carolina Cemetery.
