William Lewis Garrett, 78, of DeWitt died November 28, 2016, at his home. He was born December 15, 1937, in DeWitt to Rex and Katie Watkins Garrett. Lewis was a retired farmer and a faithful member of the General Assembly and Church of the Firstborn.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife Martha Mannis Garrett; grandson Shane Kerns; brothers Richard James and Chester Garrett; sisters Dorothy Wright, Katherine Fisher, and Lessie Edwards.
He is survived by his wife Darlene McGraw Garrett; four children Harvey Garrett (Carol) of Casscoe, Shelia Logsdon (Charlie) and Nina Kerns (Jerry) both of DeWitt, and Floyd Garret (Scarlet) of Rosebud; seven stepchildren Lance McGraw (Renae) of Benton, Brooks McGraw (Sandy) of Sanger, TX, Brent McGraw (Sherry) of Wichita, KS, Drew McGraw (Stephanie) Pine Bluff, Kim Watkins of Pine Bluff, Jan Fisher (Frederick) of Hunter, and Reiko Young (Phillip) of Pine Bluff; two sisters Mellie Brown and Annie Davis (Wayne) both of DeWitt; 6 grandchildren; 22 step grandchildren; 8 great grandchildren; 12 step great grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.
Visitation will be November 29 from 6-8 p.m. at Essex Funeral Home. Funeral services will be 10:00 November 30 at the General Assembly and Church of the Firstborn with burial in Thompson Cemetery by Essex Funeral Home. www.essexfuneralhome.com
