Mr. William "Mac" Oscar McMurtray III, 48, of Morganton, passed away on Monday, October 11, 2021, following a brief illness.
Mac was born on August 6, 1973 in Jackson, MS to Bill and Katherine McMurtray. He was a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corp, and was employed as Lieutenant with the Burke County Sheriff's Office since 2008. Mac enjoyed hunting, camping and hiking, playing corn hole and listening to classic rock and country music. He loved to compete in the obstacle course races.
He was preceded in death by his grandmothers, Gay McMurtray and Louise Martin, and by a grandfather, Alfred Martin.
Survivors include his wife, Angela Walker McMurtray, three daughters; Kari Keeling of Yadkinville, Kelsie Rose of Knoxville, TN, and Mackenzie McMurtray of the home. Also surviving is his father, William "Bill" McMurtray Jr. (Lynda), his mother, Katherine McMurtray Nelson (Cliff), two brothers; Michael Anthony McMurtray of Chesapeake, VA, Troy McMurtray (Dawn) of Jupiter, FL, one sister, Jenny Rutherford (James) of Gorham, ME, and his grandfather and best friend, W.O. McMurtray of Dallas, TX.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, October 23, 2021 at 3:00 P.M. in the Chapel of Heritage Funeral Service with Rev. Cliff Nelson officiating.
The family will receive friends on Saturday, from 2:00 until 3:00 P.M. at Heritage Funeral Service in Valdese.
