“Whosoever believeth in Him should not perish, but have eternal life.” John 3:16
William McDowell “Bill” Reynolds, 73, of Fayetteville passed from this life to his eternal home on Thursday, December 17, 2015 at Pinelodge Nursing and Rehab Center, Beckley, WV.
Born November 21, 1942 in Fayetteville, Bill was the son of the late Harry and Thelma Reynolds.
Bill lived most of his life in
Fayetteville, where he was affectionately known as “the man, the myth, the legend”. He served in the United States Army, and worked in Virginia and Illinois, but returned to his beloved hometown of Fayetteville. Bill had an incredible sense of humor, and he loved to tell jokes and make people laugh. He never met a stranger, and always had a smile for everyone. Bill loved music, and was a very skilled guitar and harmonica player. He always dreamed of playing on stage and being a famous musician.
Bill dedicated over 30 years of his life to mentoring and teaching the children of Fayetteville through coaching and being a referee for Fayetteville midget league football, little league baseball, and softball league. He encouraged parents and children to become involved in sports activities. He was a huge fan of all things Fayetteville Pirates, and WVU Mountaineers.
Bill had accepted Jesus Christ as his personal Lord and Savior in the summer of 2015, and in addition to his parents, will be reunited in Heaven with his brother Harry Lee and sister Elizabeth Reynolds who preceded him in death.
Bill will be greatly missed by surviving family members, sister Kathy and husband Charles Buckland, brothers Robert Reynolds, Lewis Reynolds and wife Polly, all of Fayetteville, Rodney Reynolds and wife Juanita of Florence SC, a host of nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, and one great-great nephew, numerous friends, and the entire town of Fayetteville. Bill wanted people to remember him for his “good conversation, good memory, and good jokes.”
Per his wishes, Bill will be cremated. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations in his memory to Hospice of Southern WV, PO Box 1472, Beckley, WV 25802-1472.
A memorial service will be held at 6:30 PM, Tuesday, December 22, 2015 at Dodd-Payne-Hess Funeral Home, Fayetteville.
The family will receive friends from 5:30 PM to 6:30 PM at the funeral home on Tuesday.
