William Robert (Bob) Johnson passed away on December 13, 2017 in Mesa, Arizona. The youngest of six children, he was born on October 13, 1929 in Carrigan Township, Illinois to John Lawrence and Effie Mae (Pierce) Johnson. Bob is survived by his son, Robert K. Johnson (Kathy); daughter Thelma Jean (Jeannie) Buckingham (Daniel - predeceased); grandchildren Michelle Dawn Bosworth Fousek (Mark), Christopher Robert Johnson (Jamie) and Michael James Johnson (Courtney); great-grandchildren Brayden Marcus, Natalie Anne and Callen Angus (Gus) Johnson. He was predeceased by his wife of 65 years, Dorothy G. (Dot) Johnson as well as his siblings; Arthur, Everett Raymond, Charles, Margaret and Helen.



Bob proudly served as a percussionist in the United States Air Force Band for twenty years. He thoroughly enjoyed his extensive travel and multitude of experiences during this time. Bob retired from the Air Force and moved his family to Arizona in 1968. He began his second career at Salt River Project, utilizing his superb organizational skills. He retired from SRP as a Power Dispatch Supervisor.



After retiring, Bob enjoyed traveling, woodwork, playing Bridge and participation in the many social engagements arranged by his wife, Dot. He was a beloved and faithful member of St. Mark's Episcopal Church. He was blessed to have served on several committees, as an usher, an office "Angel" and on the Vestry.



Bob was a wonderful, caring and generous man whose keen intellect, sense of humor and unconditional love will be missed by his family and friends. A memorial service will be held at St. Mark's Episcopal Church, 322 N. Horne, Mesa, Arizona 85203, on Saturday, February 10, 2018 at 11:00 AM. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to St. Mark's Episcopal Church for the Samaritan Fund.
