William R. Shaneyfelt, 89 of Huntington died peacefully at his home on Sunday, December 31, 2017, and departed for his heavenly home. Bill attended Huntington High School and served in the United States Air Force from 1949-1952. His natural intelligence and curiosity enabled him to have many interesting hobbies and hold several jobs including working for the U.S. Postal Service for over 30 years. He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church.

Bill was born on July 27, 1928 in Fort Wayne, the son of the late Russell W. and Mildred (Homier) Shaneyfelt.

He was united in marriage to Eleanor Demsky on December 30, 1950 at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church in Highlands, New Jersey. She preceded him in death on June 13, 1997, but they built a good life in 47 years together, and their proudest accomplishment was knowing, that through their efforts, future lives better than theirs were available for their four sons.

Survivors include four sons: Bill (Linda) Shaneyfelt of Jasper, IN; Neil (Penny) Shaneyfelt of Knightstown, IN; Tom (Kathy) Shaneyfelt of Lakewood Ranch, FL; Danny Shaneyfelt of Brooklyn, NY; two brothers: Robert "Bob" Shaneyfelt of Kokomo; Ron Shaneyfelt of Albion; four sisters: Maxine Garettson of Huntington; Evelyn Austin of Auburn; Josephine Clore of Huntington; Beverly Burnworth of West Liberty, OH; three grandchildren: Nicholas Shaneyfelt of Decorah, IA; Kara Dinh of Pflugerville, TX; Christian Shaneyfelt of Lakewood Ranch, FL; 3-month old great grandson: Oliver Thanh Dinh, who Bill was able to hold for the first time one week before his passing; several nieces and nephews and a special friend: Betty Smith of Huntington.

Bill was preceded in death by a brother: Richard Shaneyfelt.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, January 7, 2018 from 2:00 pm - 6:00 pm at the Myers Funeral Home Huntington Chapel, 2901 Guilford Street, Huntington, Indiana.

Funeral Mass will be held on Monday, January 8, 2018 at 10:00 am at St. Mary's Catholic Church, 903 N. Jefferson Street, Huntington with Father Steven Colchin officiating.

Memorial donations can be made out to St. Mary's Catholic Church or Disabled American Veterans or Huntington County Historical Society all in care of Myers Funeral Home, 2901 Guilford Street, Huntington, IN 46750.

Interment will be at Marion National Cemetery.
