After a long and courageous battle with cancer, William "Stewart" Sprouse, 65, of Greenwood, Virginia passed away peacefully in his home, surrounded by his loving family, on January 22, 2017. Stewart was born on April 4, 1951, the son of the late William Henry Sprouse, Jr. and Lula Carter Sprouse of Crozet, Virginia. Hewas also proceeded in death by his father-in-law, Basil Morris, whom he had a very special relationship with. Stewart is survived by his loving wife of 46 years, Deborah Morris Sprouse; adaughter, Lynn Sprouse Halstead and husband, James, of Troy, Virginia; granddaughter, Kendall Halstead, who was also a "special" caregiver; mother-in-law, Vernell Morris; and a special friend, Sally Rogers. In addition, he is survived by four sisters, Debra Hughes (Eddie), Lynita Nobles (Kevin), Donna Maupin (Robbie), and Michelle Rappold (David); two sisters-in-law, Cheryl Wills (Tommy) and Becky Whisnant (Darrin)' brother-in-law, Greg Morris (Lissa), and numerous nieces, nephews and friends. Stewart was a veteran of the United States Air Force, serving 4 years during the Vietnam Conflict as a crew chief on C-130 gunships, earning the Meritorious Unit Commendation. He was a truck driver for thirty-nine years and retired from Consolidated Freightways after 18 years of service. He enjoyed attending air shows and participating in car/truck shows. The family would like to thank Hospice of The Piedmont for their compassion and support for Stewart. A special thank you to his caregivers, Barbara and Pat. The family will receive friends on Friday, January 27, 2017, from 6 until 7:30 p.m. A Celebration of Life will take place on Saturday, January 28, 2017, at 11 a.m. with Pastor Richard Owen officiating at Teague Funeral Home. In honor of Stewart, flowers may be sent to Teague Funeral Home or donations can be made to Hospice of The Piedmont.
