William "Pat" Poynter was born March 17, 1939 in Bozeman Montana and passed away August 12, 2017 in Tacoma Washington. He was loved by his 3 children, Chris (Dawna), Terri (Brian) King, Sean (Anne Mare), his wife, Royce and her 3 children Bryan (Lynda) Norman, Cheryl (Ricky) Diamond, and Jason (Courtney) Norman. 15 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren. Also survived by in laws, Roy and Fay Stoneburner.
Pat grew up in Boise Idaho, graduating from Boise High School and enlisted in the Idaho National Guard. He loved being a soldier and even went to Vietnam twice to serve the country he loved. After coming home, his military career was cut short by the reduction in force so he worked the civilian world doing many different jobs. He didn't find anything as satisfying as the military, so he resigned his commission as a Major and re-enlisted in the Washington National Guard from which he retired. He went on to work for Social Security Administration until he fully retired to enjoy his family and traveling in the RV. He still remained active with the VFW in Puyallup and with the Good Sam Daffodil Rambler RV Chapter.
His greatest pleasure was spending with his family especially all the kids. He liked nothing better to sit in his chair as all the activity went on around him. He looked forward to giving them a hard time about something and then getting hugs.
