Dr. William Wooten, passed away peacefully surrounded by loved ones on November 18, 2017, after a long illness and following complications from surgery. He was 66 years old. Originally from Memphis, Tennessee, he was raised by his mother and sister. He was a mischievous child whose inquisitive nature and creative mind often got him into trouble. However, this led him to attend the University of Memphis, earning a PhD in Psychology in 1980. He relocated to Oviedo, Florida after accepting a position on the University of Central Florida faculty in 1981, where he taught until his retirement in 2013. Dr. Wooten enjoyed, in his spare time, collecting model planes, working with electronics and spending time with his family. He was an avid reader, loved science fiction, and enjoyed anything related to piloteering and African American history. He was also a member of Omega Psi Phi fraternity, and he help establish the University of Memphis chapter in 1973.He is survived by his devoted wife, Sandra Wooten (nee Perkins), and loving daughters, Whitney Wooten (of Memphis, TN) and Dr. Kimberly Wooten (of Buffalo, NY). He is also survived by his sister Mary Louise Alston (Jacksonville, FL), brother Henry Lee Bowie (Memphis, TN), nieces Terri Staten and Tamara Bowie, nephews Robert and Christopher Johnson, five grand nieces, multiple cousins, and a plethora of friends and colleagues. He was preceded in death by his adoring mother, Mrs. Pauline Wooten. Funeral services will be held on November 25th, at Baldwin-Fairchild Funeral Home (501 East Mitchell Hammock Rd, Oviedo, Fl 32765) from 3-5pm. Viewing will be from 2-3pm.
