Willie Ruth Edwards was born February 28, 1935 to the late Vastine Ward and Ella Mae Hill in Ardmore, Oklahoma. She fell asleep in death on Monday, June 12, 2017 after a Lengthy illness. She was preceded in death by her parents, 2 brothers, Joe Gentry and Ray Cohew, 1 sister, Larissa Hill. She is survived by her loving husband of 49 years, Ely Edwards, Nieces, nephews and many friends. In 2004 she successfully completed a computer course at El Centro College, which she used to study for meetings. Willie Ruth and Ely were married February 19, 1968. Not long after their marriage, she was befriended by Ella Mae Brown who at the time was studying the Bible with Jehovah’s Witnesses. Willie Ruth joined in the study and the 2 sisters were soon baptized. On April 15, 1973 she began a life of service to Jehovah. Ely wanted nothing to do with this religion but admits that he secretly followed her when she would go out in early morning witnessing ‘to see what she was up to.’ He eventually “Followed” and together they served Jehovah. When Ely suggested that one of them support the other in the full time ministry, Willie Ruth said she would ‘quit work and Pioneer,’ which she did from 1986 until her death. She often expressed her love for Jehovah God , Jesus, the ministry and spending time with her Brothers and Sisters at the Kingdom Hall. Those close to her knew her To be thoughtful and discreetly generous.
