Wilma Pruitt "Sunshine" Barrus, 89,of Valdese passed away on Saturday, January 2, 2021 at Sanford Health and Rehabilitation Center, following a period of declining health.
Wilma was born November 21, 1931 to the late David Edgar Pruitt and Geneva Mary Rhoney Pruitt. She was a member of First United Methodist Church Valdese and worked for many years at Alba-Waldensian Hoisery and DHJ Manufacturing in Hickory before retiring from J. Iverson Riddle. Wilma was a very loyal Carolina Tarheel fan.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, William Owens; daughter, Anita Jeanette Barrus; son-in-law, David Ray Koch; and sisters, Helen Bright Pruitt, Edith Louise Young and husband Ralph Young, and Lottie Irene Berry and husband Everette Berry.
Survivors include her daughters, Shelia Annette Koch of Summerfield, NC, Michelle Barrus Weaver and husband Bruce Weaver of Valdese; grandchildren, Sara Nichols and husband Mark of Greensboro, NC, David Koch Jr. and wife Nikole of Orem, UT, Jared Koch and wife Rachael of Gilbert, AZ, Joanna Hampton and husband Tim of Shelby, NC, David C. Koch and wife Ashley of Winston-Salem, NC, Sam Koch and Samantha Koch of Danbury,NC , Elizabeth Warren and Terrence of High Point, NC, Leah Koch of Shelby, NC, Heather Carswell and husband Josh of Morganton, and Quentin Weaver of Charlotte, NC. Also surviving are great-grandchildren, Malia and Jacob Nichols, Makean, Elliette, and Asher Koch, Megan, Emily, and Ava Koch, Lilee, Deyon, and Harry Hampton, Emileigh Price, Emma, Caroline, Madilyn, Annie, and Izabelle Koch, Silas Koch, Jordan and Anita Warren, and Landon Carswell.
A memorial service will be held on Friday, January 8, 2021 at 2:00 PM at First United Methodist Church Valdese with Pastor Jim King officiating. Inurnment will follow at Bollingers Chapel Church Cemetery
