Winfred C. "Bud" Breed, Jr. 94, passed away peacefully at his home in Keene, NH on September 2, 2017, surrounded in the love of his family.

He was born in Keene, NH on September 21, 1922, the son of Bertha M. (Knott) and Winfred C. Breed, Sr.

A lifelong resident of Keene, Bud attended local schools and was a 1941 graduate of Keene High School.

He enlisted in the Navy on August 25, 1941, and proudly served his country during World War II onboard what was known as "suicide ships", the USS Miantonomah, responsible for laying mines, and the YMS 454, responsible for mine sweeping. He was honorably discharged from the Navy on December 10, 1945 with the rank of Gunner's Mate Second Class, earning the WWII Victory Medal; European African Middle Eastern Medal - 1 Star; American Area Medal; Asiatic-Pacific Medal; Good Conduct Medal; and American Defense Medal - 1 Star.

Following his military obligation, Bud went to work as a lens technician for 33 years with the former American Optical Company in Keene.

He loved all animals, especially birds. He also enjoyed fishing, tending to his flower gardens, and visiting the beach. His favorite pastime was the wonderful memories created with his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, as well as helping his family with many projects around their own homes.

He will be greatly missed by many, especially his wife of 56 years, Margaret A. "Peggy" (Grover) Breed of Keene; his four children, Melisa M. McDaniels of Keene, Lori A. Thompson and her husband, Kenneth, of Westmoreland, NH, Scott W. Breed and his wife, Dayna, of Hillsborough, NH, Lynn M. Jablonski and her husband, Michael, of Keene; eight grandchildren, Jeromie McDaniels and his wife, Jennifer, Stephanie Britton and her husband, Joseph, Gregory Thompson, Celia Ellison and her husband, Sean, Dominic Jablonski, Emma Breed, Abbigail Breed, Amariah Breed; three great-grandchildren, Kaylee McDaniels, Kayden McDaniels, Henry Ellison; a brother, David Breed of Tuscon, AZ; four sisters, Norma Seliskey of Suisan City, CA, Elaine Provost of Spokane, WA, Beverly Vigent of Suisan City, Betty Thibodeau of Salem, NH; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a brother, Richard Breed; and a sister, Eleanor Scadova.

A graveside service with full military honors will be held on Thursday, September 14, 2017 at 11:30AM in the Monadnock View Cemetery, Park Avenue, Keene. Family and friends are welcome to attend.
