Mr. Winfred L. Hipp, 88, of Greensboro, passed away on Tuesday, December 5, 2017, at Ashton Health and Rehab.
Mr. Hipp served in the United States Marine Corp for two years in the early 1940's, after which he joined the United States Air Force, serving 30 years. He then worked in the Transportation Department at Cone Mills in Greensboro until retirement. He was blessed to have had two loving wives, Evelyn Reynolds Hipp and Catherine Welborn Hipp, who both preceded him in death. He was also preceded in death by brothers, Lewis Carroll, Alfred Hipp, and James Hipp; and sisters, Lucille H. Allred and Sarah H, Jaggers.
Those left to cherish his memory include his sisters, Peggy H. Phillips (Garland), Vivian H. Maness (Doug), all of Greensboro, and Judy H. Tidwell of Wilmington; brother, George Hipp (Diana) of Greensboro; four step-children; six step-grandchildren; 12 step great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews.
Mr. Hipp's greatest desire upon his death was to donate his body to science and his wishes are being fulfilled. At this time, no formal Memorial Service is being planned. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in his honor, may be made to his beloved church, Newlyn Street United Methodist Church, 212 East Newlyn Street, Greensboro, NC 27408.
