Winifred June Tooma, known as June to her family and friends, was born as Winifred June Adkins to Keith and Goldie Adkins on a farm near Chicago, Illinois, on March 18, 1925. She was the youngest of four children. After graduating from high school, she moved to Chicago and worked for the War Department during World War II. In 1947, she met an enlisted naval officer who became the love of her life, Thede “Ted” Tooma. After a brief courtship, they were married in Hartford, CT, and remained married until Ted’s death in 2013. Together June and Ted shared a wonderful full life together and had three children – Robert (Bob), Barbara, and Valerie.

June worked as a homemaker for many years. After Ted’s naval retirement in 1963, they moved to Temple Terrace, FL, so that he could get a degree in Education to teach. She began working part time for Sears & Roebuck and later began work at the University of South Florida (USF) in the library where she later retired.

June waited to join the Masonic Family until 1972 because she wanted to be an active member and not want to be “a card-carrying member.” Raising her children in those early years was her priority. Once she joined she became an active member in each organization and also served as an adult advisor on the Advisory Board for the Order of the Rainbow for Girls in Temple Terrace for 10 years. At the time of her passing she was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, the Order of the White Shrine of Jerusalem, the Social Order Of the Beauceant, the Daughters of the Nile, the Daughters of Mokanna, and the Order of the Amaranth. She went through the chairs of leadership in Eastern Star, White Shrine, and the Beauceant.

June was predeceased in death by her parents, two brothers, sister, and husband. She is survived by her 3 children, Robert Tooma, Barbara Sherry (Steve), and Valerie Tooma, 8 grandchildren, Robee Tooma, Terah Tooma, Ashley Sherry Brown (Greg), Patrick Sherry (Abbi), Janet Griffith Cady (James), Bridget Griffith Lewis (Scott), Pharon June Campbell Vaicaitis, and Jacklyn Campbell, and 11 great-grandchildren.
