Zoia (Joyce) Ushakoff, 86 yrs. old, passed away peacefully at home in Seaside, CA., on December 24th. Born March 7, 1930 in Shanghai, China, she married her childhood boyfriend, Victor Ushakoff, in April 1947, at the age of 16. Zoia and Victor left China in 1949 due to Communism and came to the United States in 1956 after living in the Philippines, Morocco and Dutch Guiana, South America. Zoia has six children: four born during their journey to America and two born in Monterey.
Zoia was a homemaker and worked for Santa Catalina School for over 30 years as a head housekeeper before retirement. She enjoyed going on cruises with her husband and loved to dance. Zoia had a great sense of humor and outlook on life. She was fluent in English, French and Russian, loved to entertain and always put family first.
Zoia was preceded in death by her husband Victor and is survived by her children; George (Lucille)Ushakoff, Walt (Peteranne) Ushakoff, Margaret Wilcox, Val Ushakoff, Victoria (Dino) Bardoni and Victor (Sue) Ushakoff. Zoia enjoyed holidays with her 16 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be at The Paul Mortuary Chapel in Pacific Grove this Thursday, January 5 from 4-7pm. Funeral services will take place at St. Seraphim's Russian Orthodox Church, Francis Street and Canyon Del Rey in Seaside on Friday, January 6 at 10:30am followed by burial at Monterey City Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, Zoia's family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Alzheimer's Association, 21 Lower Ragsdale, Monterey, 93940.
