Mrs. Zula Young Berry Knight, 93, of Icard, passed away on Tuesday, January 9, 2018, at her home, following a period of declining health.
Zula was born January 24, 1924, in Burke County, to the late james Brantley Young and Pearlie Hildebran Young. She was an active member of First Baptist Church of Icard until her health issues kept her at home. She worked in the hosiery industry all of her life and retired from Tomken Hoisery in Hildebran. She enjoyed gardening, flowers, bird watching, and was the center of the family.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband O. Andrews Knight and her first husband, Clarence J. Berry; sisters, Trilba Martin, Dovie Powell, Mamie Miller, Nellie Peyronel, and Faye Ritchie; brothers, Frank Young, Harvey Young, and Ray Young.
She is survived by her daughters, Sheila Wade and husband Kenneth, and Robin Teague; grandchildren, Amber Winebarger, Faith Wright, Amy Rosenbalm, Amelia Peacock, and Perri Teague; nine great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held on Friday, January 12, 2018 at 12:00 PM in the Chapel of Heritage Funeral Service and Crematory in Valdese, with Rev. Dr. Micheal Pardue.
Interment will follow at Catawba Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends on Friday from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM at Heritage Funeral Service.
The family would like to send a special thank you to Burke Hospice and Palliative Care for all the loving care and family support.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Burke Hospice and Palliative care at 1721 Enon Rd. Valdese, NC 28690 or to First Baptist Church of Icard at 2178 US Highway 70, Connelly Springs, NC 28612.
