Obituary for Sidney Lee Sisco

July 21, 1932 - September 18, 2019
Indianapolis, Indiana | Age 87

Born in Pryor, Oklahoma, to Sidney and Irene "Helms" Sisco, Sid grew up in and around Joplin, MO where his love of motorcycles began when, as a boy, he would sit "hours" at the edge of his family's property on HW66 waiting for a motorcycle to speed by. After graduating from Duneweg High School as one of seventeen in his graduating class, Sid joined the Army and was sent to Korea. Trained in surveying, once off the ship he was asked if he typed; as a result, he never once saw a tripod! After returning home, he relocated to Phoenix. There he began to race sports cars in an amateur racing club. Eventually, Sid purchased and raced a Porsche convertible, winning several trophies. In the mid 60's, Sid came to Indianapolis to see the Indy 500. But once here, he began working at a local Volkswagen Dealership. This led to a career of over 30 years working in several dealerships in sales and management. Besides being with family, Sid's favorite past times were riding motorcycles as well as attending auto races and classic car events.
"The cowboy and the school marm" met through mutual friends and were married December 9, 1967 as a blended family that included Sid's son Rusty and Betty's two children Beth and John. Living on the south side of Indianapolis, they were married 51 years. Sid was so proud to be step father to Beth (Mike) Carter and John (Eni) Hughel. MOre so, he loved being "Gramps" to Ashley (Greg), Emily (JT), Sebastian, Viktor, and Colette. In addition to his parents, Sid is preceded in death by son Rusty Sisco and his beloved sister , Kathryn (Smiley) Linn.
Sid's family wishes to recognize Franciscan Hospice House for its compassionate care.
Friends and family will gather at Wilson St. Pierre Funeral Service and Crematory, Greenwood Chapel, to celebrate Sid's life on Sunday, October 13 at 5:00PM. Visitation will be held at the funeral home from 3:00-5:00PM.
