Mr. Romeo "Bart" Bartolo, a longtime resident of Melrose, died suddenly on Sunday, September 25, 2011 surrounded by his loving family at Melrose-Wakefield Hospital, at the age of 69.

Born Romeo Bartolo on May 18, 1942 in Cambridge, he was one of two children of the late Romeo F. and Beatrice (Camelia) Bartolo.

Romeo who was affectionately known by many as "Bart" was raised and educated in Melrose. He worked for many years as a documentation engineer for Compugraphic Corp. in Wilmington and for Brooks Automation in Chelmsford.

Bart was a sports guy. He played softball throughout his life and continued his love of the sport as an umpire for the American Softball Association. He was a devoted fan of the Patriots, Red Sox, and Celtics.

During the summer, Bart along with his family enjoyed going to Arlington Pond in Salem, NH where he would spend the day power boating and waterskiing.

He was the beloved husband of Martha (Whitney) Bartolo with whom he shared 34 years of marriage. Devoted father of Kristen Bartolo of Melrose and Laurel Bucci of Billerica. Dear brother of Maria Guerriero of Melrose. Dear grandfather of Alexis Bucci of Billerica. Also survived by many brothers & sisters-in-law, nieces, and nephews.

Relatives and friends will gather in celebration and remembrance of Bart's life for visiting hours on Wednesday from 4-8 PM at the Robinson Funeral Home, 809 Main St., Melrose. Services will be private.
