Michael Anthony Keethers, of Indianapolis, Indiana, was a kindred spirit full of life and passion who was loved by many. A spiritual karma surrounded him that was comforting to all who ever had the pleasure to know him. Mike was always willing to provide shelter from any storm with both words and actions. His charming way of looking at life was contagious and an inspiration while his playfully sarcastic jabs made you know you were such an important part of his life. "The only thing better than life are the people you meet along the way."
Mike had many interests. He was moved by live music and the energy it created as he spent a large amount of time enjoying this experience with his devoted friends. He was an avid naturalist who loved any adventure. The year he turned 40 he accomplished the nearly impossible by Thru- hiking the entire Appalachian Trail. When he turned 50, to the amazement of family and friends, he rode his bike across America coast to coast in 62 days. With this same spirit, he was hiking the Long Trail from Vermont to Canada when he had a medical emergency near Peru, Vermont, which led to his passing on September 4, 2016. While deeply shocked and saddened by his passing, Mike was doing what he loved surrounded by the beauty of nature. He literally went out with his walking sticks in hand and "with his boots on."
Michael was born on April 20, 1959 and is survived by his parents, Peter and Ruth Keethers; siblings, Joseph (Ronda) Keethers; Mary Ellen (Keith) Sweeney; Laura (Gene) Hack; James (Crispin) Keethers and many nieces and nephews who loved him dearly for his quick wit while always being a safe beacon for them to be themselves. He loved unconditionally.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 11 a.m. Monday, September 12, 2016 at St. Clement Catholic Church, 422 E Sycamore St, Boonville, IN 47601. Visitation 2 to 8 p.m. on Sunday at Bradley's Colonial Chapel, 1005 E. Main St. Boonville, IN and 1 hr. visitation before mass at Church. Inurnment at a later date in Mount Olive Cemetery.
