George W. Hendrickson, age 81, of Delaware City, passed away on Wednesday, October 12, 2011. He was the husband of the late Arlene "Renie" Hendrickson, with whom he shared 52 years of marriage.

George was a US Army Veteran who was a paratrooper during the Korean War. He was a member of the American Legion Post 15, VFW Post 8175, and a former member of VFW Post 475 for over 50 years.

He was a retired ironworker from Local 451.

In his spare time, George enjoyed playing cards and was a fan of thoroughbred racing.

George is survived by his 3 daughters, Trudy McMillan and her husband, Cole, of Wilmington, Tammy McGeehin (Sam Ross) of Lincoln University, PA, and Trina Lockard and her husband, Bud, of Delaware City; 5 sons, Timothy and his wife, Joan, of Rising Sun, MD, Terry of Wilmington, Thomas of Elkton, MD, Tracy and his wife, Terry, of Wilmington, and Troy, also of Wilmington; brother, Benjamin Hendrickson and his wife, Paula, of New Castle; sister, Kathrine Simmons and her husband, Doyle, of Greensboro, NC; 22 grandchildren; many great grandchildren; and his life long friend, Willie.

A viewing will be held from 6-9 pm on Monday, October 17, at BEESON FUNERAL HOME, 2053 Pulaski Hwy, Newark, DE 19702. An additional viewing will be held the following morning at the funeral home from 11-12. His service will follow at 12 pm. Interment will be in Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Bear, DE. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Wilmington VA Medical Center, 1601 Kirkwood Highway, Wilmington, DE 19805.
