Harold George Simmons, Sr., age 80 of Little Rock, passed away January 5, 2011. He was born November 13, 1931 in Barling, Arkansas, the son of George and Germaine Hassler Simmons. He was preceded in death by his parents and loving wife of 55 years, Shirley Tenney Simmons.

He is survived by two sons, Harold Simmons, Jr. and wife Wendi, Larry Simmons and wife Lori; daughter Donna Little and husband Kenneth; and two sisters, JoAn Corn and husband Harold, and Linda Dickerson and husband Bill. He leaves behind 7 grandchildren, Sandra Dumond, Jason Simmons, John Simmons, James Little, Alicia Kolen, Melody Campbell and Jeb Blanz, 9 great-grandchildren and a host of friends and family.

Harold worked for the US Postal Service for 42 years, having begun his career as a railway postal clerk and retiring as manager of Asher Station. He was a member of Truservice Community Federal Credit Union for 52 years, having served 19 years on the Board of Directors and 8 years as Chairman of the Board.

He was a devoted member of Our Lady of Good Counsel Catholic church for 66 years having served many years as an usher, a member of the Pastoral Council and was deeply respected for his support of the church community.

Harold was quick with a quip and known for his great sense of humor. He had an endless supply of one-liners, jokes and stories to always brighten anyone's day. Four years ago, he agreed to share his home with "Buddy" on a trial basis. Buddy then agreed to more permanent living arrangements. The family wishes to acknowledge Buddy's contribution to Harold's happiness during his final years.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Pulaski County Humane Society, 14600 Colonel Glenn Rd., Little Rock, AR 72210.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 1:30pm Monday, January 9, 2012 at Our Lady of Good Counsel with Father Richard Zawadski as Celebrant. Burial will follow at Forest Hills Memorial Park. There will be a Rosary at 6:00pm Sunday, January 8, 2012 with a visitation from 5:00pm until 6:00pm at Griffin Leggett Healey and Roth, 5800 West 12th St, Little Rock, Ark. (501) 661-9111.
