Funeral Services for Darlene Eagle Star-Briggs will be held Thurday, December 30th at 1:00 PM at the Winner Community Hall in Winner SD. Burial will be in Bull Creek Miniska Cemetery - Dixon, SD

Darlene Leona Clairmont Eagle Star Briggs passed away peacefully in her sleep on Tuesday morning December 28th 2010 at Avera Community Hospital in Gregory SD.


She was born to Leo and Bernice (Eagle Feather) Clairmont in Rosebud SD on May 30th 1935. She attended the Rosebud Boarding School after which she left her hometown at the age of 18 and met and married Arthur Eagle Star on April 21st 1955. In their union they had 3 children - Thomas, Gladys, and Scott.
 

They made their home in Dixon, SD. Through out their life together, they opened their loving home to many children and grandchildren. They also took in and raised Lovie Crooked Foot and Wesley Brandis, both of which are graduates of Gregory High School.


In her busy life, she also managed to be an apprentice to Sally Kolbe, cooking for the rural school in Dixon, where she was also a teachers aide. Active in the community and church, she also enjoyed various activities such as softball, volleyball, yahtzee, and participating in pow-wows in the surrounding area. Other activities that she enjoyed included playing cards and working on puzzles in her leisure time.


After the passing of her husband Arthur in 1987, she met and remarried her long time companion Richard Briggs in 1991.


She had 3 sisters, Adelia (De) Eagle Feather (Iron Shell), Melda Eagle Feather (Stoneman), and Leona Clairmont (Clifford), and 2 brothers Gerald Blue Horse and Chester (Chet) Blue Horse. Darlene also had 3 cousins that she viewed as sisters - Lola Dillon, Ruby Menard, and Shirley Eagle Feather.


Darlene's memory will be cherished and carried on by her surviving son Scott Eagle Star of Gregory, SD, and by her grandchildren, Tyra Eagle Star of Wagner, SD, Nicholas, Trisha and Wayne Eagle Star of Huron, SD, Christoper Eagle Star of Gregory, SD, and Rhiannon, Krisy, and Nika Eagle Star also of Gregory, SD. Her memory will also be carried on by Lovie Crooked Foot and her daughter Trina, both of Wagner SD, and by Wesley Brandis and his wife Kristin and their two children Morgan and Mersaydees of Sioux Falls, SD. She will always be loved and missed by her niece Loretta Roubideaux who cared and accompanied her through her last days.


She is proceeded in death by both of her husbands, Arthur and Richard, her parents, 3 sisters, and 1 brother. She also lost her only daughter Gladys, and 1 son Thomas, along with 2 great grandchildren Owen (Nicholas) and Zacheriase (Tyra).
