James Michael "Wooki" Barrett, 21, of Gwinn, died unexpectedly, Sunday, April 1, 2012. Jim was born on September 15, 1990 in Marquette to Michael and Vicki (Pelkie) Barrett and was a lifelong area resident. He had attended Gwinn High School. Jim enjoyed going to deer camp with his friends all year long as well as fishing. He loved to snow board, go snowmobiling, dirt biking and 4-Wheeling. Jim especially enjoyed playing with kids and spending weekends with his daughter. He was known to always be there to open his heart and his home to a friend in need. Survivors include his parents, Michael and Vicki Barrett of Gwinn; two children, Aaron James and Alannah Nicole; two sisters, Stephanie (Terry) Barfield of Grand Rapids, MI and Michelle (Michael) Hill of Eglin AFB, FL; three nephews, Michael, Nicholas and Mathew and a niece, Makayla; maternal grandmother, Marilyn Ryan of Marquette; also surviving are numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and special friends at Sawyer. He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Michael and Blanche Barrett; maternal grandfather, Harlan Pelkie and an uncle, Pat "Clubfoot" Barrett. Friends may call at the Canale-Gwinn Funeral Home on Thursday, April 5, 2012 from 1 to 3 p.m. where a memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. with the Rev. Lon Russell officiating. Burial will take place in the Gwinn Cemetery. Memorials are preferred in lieu of other expressions of sympathy. Memories may be shared at www.canalefuneral.com
