SPARKY CANTRELL Alphus Andrew "Sparky" Cantrell, 82, resident of 107 Hampton Road, widower of Jo Anne Cole Cantrell, died January 6, 2011 at Self Regional Medical Center. Born in Commerce, GA, October 20, 1928, he was a son of the late John Thomas "JT" and Lila Ingram Cantrell. He was a US Army Veteran where he served in the 4th Infantry Division and marched in the Russian Border Patrol at the end of World War II. Mr. Cantrell was the former General Manager of the Greenwood Municipal Golf Course, served as the Golf Professional at Greenwood Country Club and owned and developed Cedar Springs Golf Club in Greenwood. He was a Lifetime member of the Professional Golfers Association. Surviving are two daughters, Pamela Wilson and husband Ernie of Greenwood and Nancy Gayle Hickox and husband Mark of Evans, GA; three brothers, Thomas C. Cantrell and wife Jerry, Preston T. Cantrell and wife Betty, all of Columbia and Joe C. Cantrell and wife Gilder of Greenwood; four grandchildren, Andrew Adcock of Greenwood, Cole Adcock of Clemson, Kyle Hickox and Meghan Hickox, both of Evans, GA and two great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by a sister, Joyce Davenport. Funeral services will be conducted at 5:30 Sunday from the Blyth Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Jeff Lethco officiating. The family will receive friends immediately following the service at the funeral home. Burial will be Monday in Greenwood Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers will be Ernie Wilson, Andrew Adcock, Cole Adcock, David Thompson, John Thompson, Mark Hickox, Fred Duff and Kyle Hickox. Honorary escort will be employees of Cedar Springs Golf Club. Memorials may be made to the charity of one's choice. The family would like to thank caregivers Nira Miles, Gladys Holmes, Patricia Lewis, Vicky Hogue and Terry Cottle.
