Mr. Albert George Berven of Estherville died at Avera Holy Family Hospital on Sunday, July 1, 2012, at the age of 81.
Albert was born on March 27, 1931, to George and Minnie Berven at his home in rural Emmet County. He graduated from Maple Hill High School in 1949. Following graduation, Albert worked on the railroad, and then served in active duty in the United States Army from 1952-1954 where he earned an honorable discharge. He was united in marriage to Carol Johnson on August 18, 1957, in Zumbrota, Minnesota, and the couple made their home in rural Ringsted where they farmed together and raised their three children. With the exception of the time spent in military service, Albert lived his entire life in Emmet County where he was engaged in farming until his retirement.
In retirement, Albert enjoyed playing cards at the Good Samaritan Center, also Rosewood Manor and in his various card clubs. He loved buying and selling cars, raising cattle, riding horses, and spending time with his grandkids.
Albert is survived by his wife, Carol, of Estherville; their three children including David (Lecia) Berven , Beth (Jim) Simon, and Becky (Scott) Brunsvold; and six grandchildren, Ryan Berven, Derek Berven, Alyson Berven, Megan Simon, Sarah Simon, and Brandon Brunsvold. In addition, Albert is survived by his brother Donald Berven of Graettinger.
