Abie Duane "Abe" Clark, 73, passed away December 30, 2011, at a local hospital after a long battle with cancer. Born in Sparta, Tennessee, he was the son of the late Lavada Hutson Clark. Abe served his country in the United States Navy, retiring as a Chief Petty Officer after 20 years of service in various local commands, including NAS Norfolk, AIMD Norfolk, VRC-40, VU-6, and VA-34. Following his naval career, he founded Clark TV, serving his many customers for more than 30 years. He could routinely be found holding court at his shop with Saturday morning friends and customers solving the multitude of world problems and issues over coffee and donuts. He intensely loved getting to know people, sharing his sense of humor, and was deeply proud of his title as "TV Man." He is survived by his loving wife of 50 years, Elizabeth "Liz" Clark; son, David and wife Leslie of Norfolk, VA; son, Brian and wife AnneMarie of Norfolk, VA; and daughter, Deborah Clark Awbrey, also of Norfolk, VA; his grandchildren, Nicholas Clark, Sara Awbrey, Kaitlan Clark, Melissa Awbrey, Stephen Clark, Andrew Awbrey, Matthew Clark, Brandon Clark, Elizabeth "Ella" Clark; and great grandson, Christian Perdue. He was preceded in death by his grandson, Charles Patrick Awbrey, Jr. He is also survived by a sister, Betty Tanner of Lebanon, TN; and a host of cousins, nieces and nephews. The family would like to thank the ICU/CCU nursing staff of DePaul Hospital, and his Sentara Home Health nurses, Toni Saunders and Margie Owens for their outstanding dedication and compassionate care. A memorial service will be held 11:00 a.m., January 5, 2012, at Norview United Methodist Church, 1112 Norview Ave, Norfolk. Pastor William J. Shepherd will be officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family asks for donations to Norview United Methodist Church, Calvin Presbyterian Church of Norfolk, or the American Cancer Society.
