Benefit Concert: A benefit concert that includes performances by 8 local bands, including Adrian's band, The KABBS, will take place on November 21, 2009 from 12:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at WAVE HOUSE in Mission Beach. This concert is a funder raiser for Adrian's son's, Mason's, College Trust Fund. Mason just turned 4 years old this month.

Adrian Marcel (Voorhees) Vusich
Taken too soon on July 4, 2009, born on October 8, 1979 in Seattle Washington, Adrian Vusich lived a vibrant life. He was loved by his family and a wide circle of friends.

Predeceased by Grandfather Conrado A. Hinojosa Sr., Adrian is survived by his son Mason Kaleb Vusich Richards, parents Magali and Martin Vusich, Grandmother Ines Hinojosa, his uncle Conrado A. Hinojosa Jr, and aunt Milma Lannes, aunt Teresita Hinojosa-Pereira and her husband Brian Pereira, uncle Jorge Hinojosa and his wife Patty Hinojosa, uncle Daniel Hinojosa and his wife Rowena Hinojosa; his cousins Dominique Hinojosa, Sergio Hinojosa and Serigo's son Logan Hinojosa, Taunya Hinojosa, Lauren Hinojosa, Victoria Hinojosa, and Samuel Hinojosa. His father Martin's brother uncle Leo Vusich. Mason's mother is Elisa Richards.

Adrian graduated from Mission Bay High School in 1997 and San Diego State college in 2005 with a degree in History followed by his teaching credential which he applied as a substitute teacher at Memorial Preparatory Academy. Adrian's passion for teaching came from a deep sense of making a difference in the lives of young people.

His crew will miss him in the line-up at South Mission beach, and his band mates from the "Kabbs" will miss his stage presence and energy. Adrian loved to spin records at local clubs, had a passion for the outdoors, and exercise, especially surfing.

There will be a viewing at the Pacific Beach Mortuary, 4710 Cass St, San Diego, CA 92109, this Friday July 10 between 4:00 and 8:00 p.m. A celebration of life mass will be held on Saturday July 11 at Saint Mary Magdalene church in Bay Park (Clairemont), 1945 Illion St. San Diego, CA 92110, at 11:00 AM. Immediately afterwards, join us for a more informal gathering, food and drink and celebration of Adrian's life at Andres Cuban & Puerto Rican restaurant salon at 1235 Morena Blvd San Diego, CA 92110-3814.

Paddle Out Video now online
BEFORE ATTEMPTING TO VIEW THE VIDEO, READ THE IMPORTANT NOTE BELOW.

I finally finished editing the video of the paddle out and it is now available on this page. See on the right column at the bottom the section marked VIDEOS. Click on the video symbol there and the video will launch (BUT SEE NOTE BELOW). It is about 16 minutes long and captures that incredible day when more than 100 of Adrian's surfer friends and family held the paddle out to honor him and to distribute some of his ashes.

IMPORTANT NOTE: THere is a glitch on the website - for some reason the Video also appears in the slide show at the top as the last item (not on purpose). So if you click the link under VIDEOS at the bottom, at a certain point, as the slide show runs by itself automatically, there will be 2 instances of the video playing and you hear both sound tracks out of synch with each other. So until I can figure out how to fix this, here is the only way to watch the video for now without this problem:

FOR NOW, DON"T click on the video link at the bottom of the page. Instead, go to the top of the page and scroll all the way to the right, to the last item in the slide show - you will see a VIDEO Icon. Click on that video icon and you can watch the entire video right there were the slide show normally appears.

The other possible option, is to pause the slide show before you go to the video link - as long as the slide show is paused, you can watch the video the other way. But it actually displays better inside the slide show window anyway.

More Tribute events:

On July 16th, Adrian's band, THE KABBS, will be playing at the KEN at 4079 Adams Ave., San Diego, CA 92116 at 9:00 pm at a gig that had been scheduled before Adrian's passing and will now also be a tribute to Adrian. His uncle, Conrado, who plays saxophone, will be playing Adrian's last composition with the KABBS on this occassion.

His family and friends will also have a traditional surfers paddle out on Saturday July 18, 10:00 AM at the South Mission Beach jetty. Special thanks to Jim and Todd Van Epp, the owners of the boat that was used in the Paddle Out event. Adrian's family and friends thank the Van Epps for their generosity in providing the boat and crew for this very special event.

NOTE: After the paddle out, join us for a special gathering at the High Dive Bar & Grill at 1801 Morena Blvd, San Diego, CA 92110, starting around 2:00 pm (Saturday July 18th). There will be a special raffle to raise funds for Mason's education fund and a portion of drinks sold will also be contributed to this fund.

Adrian's loss will leave a void in the lives of the broad community of family and friends he touched in his 29 years. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Mason Richards scholarship memorial fund for his son's education. Checks can be made payable to the Fidelity Fund, in comments, for benefit of Mason V Richards.
