Alan Dale Handy

On Tuesday, September 27, 2011, Alan D. Handy went to be with the Lord after a short illness.
Born May 20, 1940, he is the son of the late Troy and Susan Rakes Handy.
In addition to his parents, Alan is preceded in death by his wife Wanda Handy; brothers Roger and Leon Handy and sister Nancy Trent.
Those left to cherish his memory include his children Alan Ray Handy, Ruann Handy Fielder and Jonathan (Johnny) Handy; 3 grandchildren, Christopher Handy, Jessica Handy Caldwell and husband Anthony and Steven Maynor; 2 great-grandchildren, Jacob and Alana Caldwell; brother Benny Handy and sister Sue Basham and husband Ronnie.
Alan was an electrician in the coal mines for 45 years. After retirement he enjoyed reading and taking pictures of the wildlife around his home, watching old westerns and being "G-Pa" to Jake and Lana Jo.
Services will be held at 3:00 PM Saturday, October 1, 2011 at Blue Ridge Funeral Home, Beckley with Brother L.C. Rakes officiating. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Park.
Friends may gather with the family Friday from 6 – 8 PM at the funeral home.
