Jonesville, The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want. He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters. He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name's sake. Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me. Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over. Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the LORD for ever. Mr. Alan Gray Combs, age 67 of Jonesville, passed away peacefully at home with his family by his side on Friday, August 19, 2011. Mr. Combs was born December 3, 1943 in Surry County to Berlie Newton "Bill" and Sarah "Click" Nicholson Combs. Mr. Combs worked for 3WC radio in Wilkesboro and was a member Fall Creek Baptist Church. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, a member of Yadkin County VFW Post 10346, and a member of the Jonesville Town Zoning Board. During his career, Mr. Combs worked for WLRS (Worlds Least Radio Station) in Little Richmond, WPAQ in Mt. Airy, WASTC in Boone; while in the Army he worked at radio stations in Tampa, FL, Zephyr Hills, FL, and WHKM in Thailand, and in later years WIFM in Elkin, WHIP in Mooresville, WYZD in Dobson, and WWWC in Wilkesboro. Mr. Combs was preceded in death by his parents. Survivors include; his wife, Vivian Benton Combs of the home. Two sons, Gavin Combs and his wife Melody of Jonesville, Geran Combs and his wife Cindy Huang of Leesburg, VA. Two step-sons, Jim Benton and wife Michelle of Boonville and Brian Benton of Jonesville. Two brothers, Bill Combs and his wife JoAnn of Advance, Steve Combs of Mississippi. A sister, Jean Voltman of Jamestown, NY. Grandchildren, Aaron Combs, Benjamin Combs, Chloe Combs, and Courtney Combs. Step-Grandchildren, Courtney Shover and her husband Wesley, West Holbrook, Lesley Benton, and Adien Benton followed by a host of nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted Monday, August 22, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. in Fall Creek Baptist Church with Rev. Don Hudson officiating. Mr. Combs will lie in state 30 minutes prior to the service. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with full military honors. The family will receive friends Sunday evening from 6:00-9:00 p.m. at Elkin Funeral Service. Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to Fall Creek Baptist Church Building Fund, 33620 Fall Creek Church Road, Jonesville, NC 28642 or to Mountain Valley Hospice, 688 North Bridge Street, Elkin, NC 28621.
