The Polk saw action in Java, New Zealand, Australia, Borneo, India, South Africa and the Aleutian Islands. After serving on the Polk, Albert served MP duty in the San Francisco bay area where he reached the rank of Sergeant.

He married Doris A. Covert on September 20, 1942 in San Francisco. They lived many years in Worcester, while Albert worked as a sales executive for Thomas Smith Company, for over 28 years. He and Doris retired to Titusville, Florida for six years before moving to Brewster, Massachusetts.

Al's passion was music. He played guitar all his life and later taught the instrument. Other interests included word puzzles and crosswords; storytelling and life at the cape. He was a self proclaimed, 'leader and captain of the early risers at the Brewster dump.'
