COLUMBIA Dr. Albert H. Dorsey passed away on Monday, December 26, 2011, at the age 93. Born in Cleveland, Ga, he was a son of the late Augustus Lee and Rosalee Crumley Dorsey. He was a long time resident of Columbia.
A Lieutenant in the U.S. Navy during WWII, Dr. Dorsey received his PhD from the University of Virginia, having first attended Berea College in Kentucky and Rabun Gap Nacoochee School, in Georgia. He taught vocational agriculture in Ezel, Ky, prior to attending UVA and held various positions in the SC Department of Education until his retirement in 1980.
He is survived by his wife, D. Laverne Dorsey; three children, Cheryl Ridings, Linda Macdonald and David Dorsey; six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
A memorial service for Dr. Dorsey will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, December 29, 2011 at Dunbar Funeral Home, Devine Street Chapel with burial at a later date in Forest Lake Presbyterian Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends thirty minutes prior to the service at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorials be made to Forest Lake Presbyterian Church, 6500 N. Trenholm Road, Columbia, SC 29206 or Rabun Gap Nacoochee School, 339 Nacoochee Drive, Rabun Gap, GA 30568
