A human spirit has taken flight from this life; from the distraction and weariness of time of the peace to eternity. We pause today to pay tribute to the life that was lived among us and to celebrate the final homegoing of ALBERTUS "BERT" ROGERS. Bert was born in Darlington County, a son of the late Henry and Della Rogers. He was educated in the Darlington County public schools, and served in the United States Air Force. He retired from Klopman Mills/Galey & Lord in Society Hill, South Carolina after working there for many years. He also worked as a taxi driver in the Hartsville community for several years. He also rendered his services faithfully as an associate with Hines Funeral Home dating back to the 1960's. Bert was a member of Kingsville United Methodist Church where he worked with the finance committee, trustee board, and United Methodist Men. Before his illness, Bert took pride in opening the church doors and making it comfortable for the members when they entered. He also served as a host for the annual NAACP Freedom Fund Celebration. Mr. Rogers was married to the former Sorfronia Blakney and this union was beautifully blessed with four children, Malcolm, Vickie, Sharron, and Sam. Mr. Rogers departed his earthy life on Wednesday, February 22, 2012 in a local hospital after an illness. His presence shall surely be missed by all who knew and loved him. Through faith, family and friends will find comfort in their thoughts of him experiencing no more pain or sorrow, but being at rest now with no more suffering to bear. Surviving to cherish the memory of Albertus "Bert" Rogers are his children Malcolm Rogers and Vickie (Clinton Jr.) Jacobs, both of Hartsville, SC; Sam Rogers of Florence, SC: Sharron (Michael) Thomas of Edmond, OK, Berthena McFarland and Harold Johnson also of Hartsville, SC; his siblings Edna Gregg of Hartsville, SC; Marie (William) Greene of Brooklyn, NY and Rufus (Arlene) Rogers of Bronx, NY; his in-laws, Berthel Williams and Margaret Bryant both of Hartsville, SC and Ruben (Maggie) Blakney of Bishopville, SC; his grandchildren, Stacey (Andre) Watkins of Waco TX, Damon Rogers, LaVaciette Thomas, Jeryl Jacobs, and JaKeith Jacobs of Columbia, SC, Tony (Pam) Thomas and Moneisha Johnson both of Hartsville, SC; his great-grandchildren, Shawn, Andrea, and Julian Watkins of Waco, TX, JaKeith Jr., Jeremiah Jacobs and Damon Rogers II all of Columbia, SC, his daughter-in-law, Patricia Rogers, a very special friend of the family, Alicia Days and a host of other close relatives and very dear friends. Preceding him in death were his siblings: Amos, Edmond, LeCan, Wister, Eugene, and Laura Rogers, and Hattie R. Morgan; and his grandson, Orenthius Rogers.
