Putney- Alex Charles Raymond, 23, of Turner Trail in Putney died unexpectedly Thursday afternoon, July 14, 2011 at his home. Alex was born in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada on February 15, 1988 the son of Normand and Heather (McKinnon) Raymond. Prior to moving to Putney with his family in 1999, he was raised in Montreal, Quebec, Canada where he attended elementary school. Alex later attended middle school in Putney and was a graduate of Brattleboro Union High School, Class of 2006. He was employed as a mason tender for Vermont Stonework's of Wilmington and was active duty with the Vermont Army National Guards. Alex completed a year tour of duty in Afghanistan returning home from active service in December 2010. From 2007 to 2009 he served as a deputy sheriff with the Windham County Sheriff's Department having completed the law enforcement training required by the department. An ardent outdoorsman, he enjoyed hiking, camping, mountain biking and snowboarding. His family was very important to him and he especially enjoyed time shared with his family. With his family, Alex was a communicant of Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church in Putney. On September 19, 2009 in Wilmington he was married to Nicole Orne who survives. Besides his wife he leaves, one son, Gabriel Raymond, at home, his parents of Putney, two brothers, Jamey Raymond and Eric Raymond both of Putney, two sisters, Samantha Merrill and husband Andrew of Hinsdale and Wendy Raymond of Putney. Additionally he is survived by his maternal grandmother, Dora McKinnon of Quebec, Canada, his paternal grandmother, Gaetane Raymond also of Quebec and many aunts, uncles, cousins and great aunts and uncles. The Liturgy of Christian Burial will be celebrated Wednesday at 10:00 A.M. at Saint Michael's Roman Catholic Church on Walnut Street in Brattleboro. Full military honors will be conducted in front of the church following the Mass. Interment will be private. Memorial contributions in Alex's name may be made to; The American Cancer Society, 237 East Avenue, Burlington, Vermont 05401-3438.
