Alice E. Schowengerdt, age 78, of Higginsville, Missouri died on Friday, August 27, 2010, at Meyer Care Center in Higginsville.

Born Wednesday, August 17, 1932 in Higginsville, she was the daughter and youngest of five children, of John Alpers and Hulda Alpers. After the family moved to Corder, Missouri, Alice attended parochial grade school and was a 1950 graduate of Corder High School. She married Richard C. Schowengerdt June 24, 1951.

She was an accomplished seamstress, making many of the family's clothing. She worked at Francis Gee Garment Co., Higginsville Garment Factory, JAKA Enterprises, Odessa, Missouri and later at her daughter's sewing shop, KMK Products,Mayview, Missouri.

She was a member of Circle #2 of the Women's Fellowship at Salem United Church of Christ, Higginsville where she was a member.

Preceded in death are her parents, son, Paul Schowengerdt and brother, Dale Alpers.

Surviving are her husband of 59 years, Richard C. Schowengerdt of the home, daughter, Kathy Schowengerdt & friend Bob, Lexington, Missouri; brothers, Arnold Alpers & wife Winiford, North Kansas City, Missouri; Wesley Alpers & wife Evelyn, Kansas City, sister, Evelyn Crick, Higginsville; six grandchildren, Amy Schowengerdt, Jason (Carmen) Schowengerdt, Scott (Heather) Schowengerdt, Staci (Ken) Pfetsch, Sandi (Darron) Beauchamp, Dustin Kloeppel; and twelve great grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 7:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. Sunday, August 29, 2010, at Hoefer Funeral Home, 1600 Main St., Higginsville. A Funeral Service will be held 10:00 A.M. Monday, August 29, 2010 at Salem United Church of Christ, 1500 Main St., Higginsville with Rev. Joyce Holley, officiating and Doris Jane Stoner, organist. Interment will be in Missouri Veterans Cemetery, Higginsville.

Memorial contributions may be sent to Salem U.C.C. Memorial Fund, Lafayette County Cancer Coalition or Care Alternatives Hospice.

Pallbearers include Dustin Kloeppel, Darron Beauchamp, Gary Bauer, Barry Bottemuller, Scott Schowengerdt and Jason Schowengerdt. Honorary pallbearers are Ken Pfetsch & Great Grandsons.
