January 21, 1946 – November 30, 2011 Alice Lawrence Stein, 65, of Bryan, passed away peacefully with her children by her side on Wednesday, November 30, 2011 in Charlotte, North Carolina. Visitation is scheduled for Sunday, December 4th, from 5:00 to 7:00 pm at Strickland Funeral Home in Caldwell. Services are set for 10:00 am. Monday, December 5th, at Snook Brethren Church with burial at the Snook Cemetery. Alice was born January 21, 1946, in Brenham, the daughter of Richard "Bill" and Olga (Lednicky) Lawrence. She was raised in Snook, TX. She graduated from Snook High School in 1964 and was married to Franklin J. Stein from 1965 to 1982. Alice dedicated many years to helping others through social services including 35 years at the Bryan Social Security Office, retiring in October 2010. In her personal time, she shared her passion for music by singing. Alice celebrated life, she enjoyed sharing meals with her friends, dancing, exercising and spending time with her beloved grandchildren. Over the last ten years Alice took a special interest in traveling including trips to England, Spain and New York. She embraced new technology through online activities; social networking, online shopping, email and learning new topics. Her passion for learning the biography of others allowed her to have a vast network of friends reaching throughout the world. In 2009, Alice was diagnosed with Stage 3C ovarian cancer, she valiantly fought this disease until she could fight no longer. In 2011, Alice temporarily moved to Charlotte, North Carolina to spend time with her son and continue her treatments. She was preceded in death by her parents. Survivors include: her son, Richard Stein and his wife, Kelli Stein; her daughter Linda Thurman and her husband Beau Thurman; her three grandchildren, Reagan Thurman, Courtney Thurman and Nicholas Stein; her sister LaNelle Junek and her husband Joe; her two nieces, Susie Junek and Jonelle Junek. Alice knew well what was truly important and will live in the hearts of those that love her. We are grateful for the support and kindness of all those who share our feelings for Alice. We are especially thankful for those angels the Lord sent to help Alice as she neared the end of her journey her on earth.
