Memorial mass of Christian burial for Alice M. Walker, 83, a resident of Davenport, Iowa will be 10:30 a.m. on Monday, December 20, 2010 at St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church, 916 E. Rusholme Street, Davenport. The family will greet friends Monday from 9:30 a.m. - 10:30 a. m. at the church. Burial will be Monday, December 20th at National Cemetery, Rock Island Arsenal. Alice died Tuesday, December 14, 2010 at Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House in Bettendorf, surrounded by her loving family. Halligan McCabe DeVries Funeral Home assisted the family with arrangements.

Alice M. Branco was born June 26, 1927 in Cambridge, MA a daughter of Jacinto and Marie (Mello) Branco. She was united in marriage to James M. Walker on November 3, 1946. He preceded her in death on August 25, 1999.

Mrs. Walker had been employed for 10 years with the Davenport School District at Sudlow Junior High. Alice was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. She took great pleasure in the many friendships she established with both the drivers and fellow riders on the Davenport city buses.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House, Bettendorf

Survivors include her daughters and sons-in-laws, Donna (Don) Ort of Ladson, SC, Janet (Ed) Pado of Newport, RI; her son with whom she lived, Byron Walker of Davenport; 6 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren; a sister, Irene (Gabe) Flores of Wilmington, MA; as well as her loving nieces and nephews who affectionately called her “Auntie Elsie”.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, 2 brothers and 1 sister.
