ALLEN HOWARD BALCKWELL was born June 12, 1930 in Ruffin, North Carolina to the late Bessie and Jonh Blackwell. Allen departed this life on September 9, 2009 at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Baltimore, Maryland after a lengthy bout with cancer. Allengraduated from the Ruffin Public school System in North Carolina. After graduation, he was drafted into United States Armed Service where he served in the Korean War until his honorable discharge. After returning from the Army, Allen was married; and from this union three son were born, Herbert, Victor, and Earl. In 1962, Allen relocated to Baltimore where he worked for several companies such as London Fog abd Bethlehem Steel. In 1968 Allen met Linda Johnson and they soon married in 1969. From this union one daughter was born, Tonia. In 1970, he started working for the Danko Arlington Corporation from which he retired in 1992 after 22 years of loyal service. After retirement, Allen enjoed spending time family and friend and gardening at the Whitelock Community Garden where his tomatoes were always was loyal friendand would help anyone in any way that he could. Allen always exuded pride in his grandson Markes, whom he helped raise and cherished until his death. Allen leaves to mourn: his devoted wife of 40 years, Linda Blackwell; one daughter, Tonia Blackwell of Maryland; three sons, Herbert, Victor, and Earl Blackwell of Virginia ; two daughters-in-law; his brothers Robert Blackwell of Maryland, Clyde, Roland, Walter, Fred, Daniel and Delmus Blackwell of North Carolin( Brother John Blackwell preceded him in death); sister, LeAnna Lawson of North Carolin; six sister's -in-law, three brother-in-law, seven grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousin and a host of freinds including a devoted friend who struk by him until the end, Mr, Lee Thomas.
