Allen Jay Vander Veen, 61, of Arkansas City, KS died October 18, 2009, at his residence. Graveside services have been scheduled for 2:00 p.m. Friday, October 23, 2009, in the Riverview Cemetery. Viewing will be 9:00 a.m.-1:00 p.m. Friday. Allen was born December 20, 1947 in Artesia, CA to James and Anne (Kamstra) Vander Veen. He was reared and educated in Norco, CA. Allen Graduated from Corona High School in 1966. After high school Allen joined the Army in 1968. He served his country in Vietnam. He was later honorably discharged in January, 1970. Allen continued to serve his country in the Army Reserves until 1974. After being discharged from the Army, Allen attended Journeyman Carpentry School and Chapman Community College where he received his Associates Degree in Real Estate and Business Law. On August 21, 1971, he married Linda Emmons in Corona, CA. The couple made their home in Corona before moving to Arkansas City in 2009. While in Corona, Allen owned and operated Vander Veen Construction for many years. Survivors include his wife, Linda of the home; son, Jason Allen Vander Veen; daughter, Alina Anne Vander Veen all of Arkansas City, KS; brother, James Vander Veen of Medford, OR; sister, Patricia Vander Veen of Riverside, CA; brother, Bill Vander Veen of Phoenix, OR. Allen was preceded in death by his parents, and a son, Ryan Jay Vander Veen. Arrangements are under the direction of the Rindt-Erdman Funeral Home.
