Allene C. Osborn passed away peacefully with her family by her side on Tuesday, May 18, 2010 at the age of 92. Born and raised in Coffeyville, Kansas, she married her beloved Kenneth at the age of 18 and moved to San Diego to raise her family. She had two children, 4 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren, however, there were many others to whom she was also “Grandma”.
A loving Wife, Mother, Grandmother and friend to all. Allene was very active in her church and had a passion for gardening, travel, cooking, and crafts. Above all, she loved her family and friends and cherished the time she spent with them. She treasured the small joys of life and was happy to share them with others. She was a sweet, loving person who led by example and taught all generations her practical life skills, creativity, love of nature and her honest and caring values. She was very generous with her time; volunteering for many years teaching Sunday school and providing craft projects for her grandchildren and grandson-in-law’s elementary school class.
For 48 years Allene had a career in banking. She began as a teller at B of A in the Linda Vista Shopping Center in San Diego. This was the first mall-type shopping center in the United States and was built during World War II. She retired after many years as an Administrative Assistant in the Executive Offices of the San Diego Trust and Savings Bank in downtown San Diego.
Allene was preceeded in death by her husband Kenneth C. Osborn and son Thomas K. Osborn. She is survived by a sister Caroline Miller of Florida and a brother Frank Clark of Colorado; her daughter and spouse Merlene (Neil) Willoughby; her grandchildren and spouses Bonnie (Charles) Prokop, Robert Willoughby of Virginia, Carrie (Ben) Ruano, and Betsy (Kevin) Brickley; her beloved great-grandchildren Chad and Cory Prokop, Aaron and Nathan Ruano, and Amber, Amanda and Alexa Brickley plus many other dear friends.
Special thanks to her loving Caregiver Lou Ann Johnson and the loving and caring staff at both The Arbors and San Diego Hospice.
Friends and Family are invited to join the memorial service which will be held on Saturday, May 29th, at The Linda Vista Presbyterian Church at 11:00 am.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to Linda Vista Presbyterian Church, 2130 Ulric St., San Diego, CA 92111 or to San Diego Hospice Foundation, 4311 Third Ave, San Diego, CA 92103.
