Altagracia "Grace" Sanchez, from Mojave, California, passed away Friday, August 12, 2011, at Antelope Valley Hospital, after a long illness. Grace was born in Los Angeles, California, on April 10, 1924, and was married to her spouse, Manuel Sanchez, for 68 years. She and her husband raised their six children in Mojave and were blessed with twelve grandchildren. While she ran a licensed day care facility in Mojave for many years, she was also known as "Grandma Grace" to countless other children in town. As a devout Catholic, she strongly believed in helping and being supportive of anyone in need. She had a passion for cooking and loved surprising her friends and family with food. No leftovers were ever wasted, for she forever remembered to feed all of God's creatures, including the strays and birds. She gave willingly, and loved helping financially, anyone in need.
Grace is survived by her loving husband, Manuel, and children: Louis Sanchez (Gloria) Mojave, CA; Rosie Thompson (Addison) Santa Barbara, CA; Hector Sanchez (Kelly) Mojave, CA; Anna McAtee (Santa Clarita, CA); Jim Sanchez (Rosie) Palmdale, CA; and Linda Thiele (Brad) Lancaster, CA. Grandchildren: David Edmonds, Jessica Sanchez, Heather Edmonds, Jennifer Echeverria, Eric Edmonds, Jason Sanchez, Tabitha McAtee, Amanda Thiele, Dana Thiele, Melissa Thiele, Jimmy Sanchez and Brianna Sanchez.
Mass and Rosary will be held at 10:00 a.m. at Saint Francis of Assisi Church, in Mojave, on Friday, August 19, 2011. Following the services will be the funeral interment at East Kern Cemetery in Mojave, followed by a reception at the Saint Francis Hall.
