MILLERSBURG- Alton S. Zerby, age 83, of Millersburg passed away on May 25, 2011 at the Masonic Village in Elizabethtown, PA. He was born in Herndon, PA, son of the late John and Ida Wilkerson Zerby. He was also preceded in death by his beloved wife of 62 years Sara (Lyter) Zerby and his sister Norma Leitzel of Klingerstown. Mr. Zerby served as the principal at Lenkerville Elementary School in Millersburg for 29 years from 1962 until his retirement in 1991. Prior to that time he was a fourth grade teacher at Lenkerville and an elementary teacher at the Upper Paxton Union Elementary School. He received his Bachelor's Degree from Bloomsburg University and Master's Degree from Bucknell University. He was a US Army veteran during WWII receiving the WWII victory medal and the Army Occupation Medal. He was a member of St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Millersburg. He was a member of Susquehanna Lodge #364 where he was a past Worshipful Master. He was also a member of Harrisburg Consistory, Tall Cedars of Lebanon Forest # 125 and Upper Dauphin Shrine Club. He will truly be missed by all of his family and friends. Surviving are his brother Richard of Millersville, his nephews Jack Cooper and wife Deborah of Elizabethtown, Kevin Cooper and wife Pamela of New Tripoli, Scott Cooper of Ft. Lauderdale, FL, Brian Cooper and wife Susan of Millersburg, five great nephews, a great niece and a great great nephew. There will be a viewing on Tuesday, May 31 from 7-9 pm with Masonic Rites at 8:45 pm at the Hoover-Boyer Funeral Home in Millersburg. There will also be a viewing on Wednesday June 1 from 10-11 am at St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church 324 North St. in Millersburg. Services will begin at 11:00 on Wednesday. Burial with military honors will be at Longs Cemetery in Halifax. Donations can be made to Shriner's Hospital for Children 3551 N. Broad St. Philadelphia, PA 19140 Attn: Donations Dept.
