Effa Ann Crisp Born – February 2, 1927 Passed – August 6, 2011 Athena, Oregon, was the birthplace of Effa Ann Crisp and as the middle child of Lee & Clara Crawford, "Ann" joined her older brother Jimmy and was later joined by her younger brother Jack. The family moved to southern California where Ann met the love of her life, a Navy man named "Little OE" Oral Crisp. After dating the two were married in 1955 and began to build what would become an amazing life filled with travel and excitement. The young couple focused on raising their son, Randy, and in the early 1960's moved into a log cabin lodge in Cherry Grove, Oregon. Ann began raising dogs, and fell in love with the Chow Chow breed in particular. She began raising, rescuing, grooming and showing dogs. They then moved to Aloha, OR, and OE built a grooming room for her that was attached to their house. Ann traveled alone and with friends all over the US to show her dogs, the kennel she built, Cherokee Kennels, became quite well known in the dog world. Eventually they moved to the quaint and quiet island of Cathlamet, WA, where she continued showing, and breeding dogs, and added Shih Tzu's to her repertoire. Prior to OE retiring, they found the perfect piece of property on which to continue to build Cherokee Kennels. Ann continued to show dogs and also became an AKC recognized judge and traveled the world judging dog shows, many times joined by her husband OE. She was a woman of many talents, a rock hound, jewelry maker, prolific knitter, seamstress and gardener. She worked tirelessly on her family genealogy and when the couple retired to Cathlamet, Washington (once again), she became a committed and vocal activist. Finally settling in Vancouver, Washington in 2005, she became very involved with her church family and enjoyed home teaching, the relief society and most definitely weekly lunches with her friends. She is preceded in death by her parents, brothers, beloved husband, OE, and son, Fred Wienke. Ann is survived by her son & his wife, Randy & Wanda Crisp. Grandchildren; Levi, Vanessa, Tommi, and Jonathan, and great grandsons; Dallas Lane, Dalton, and Randy James.
