Ann Marie Moreschi

Obituary for Ann Marie Moreschi

April 27, 1935 - December 21, 2016
Shrewsbury, Massachusetts | Age 81

Not only were Ann and Joan Moreschi sisters…they were best friends. Virtually inseparable aside from the obligation of work, they were always together and complimented one another perfectly. Ann was the consummate and talented cook and Joan, the florist extraordinaire. They frequently hosted and their tables were feasts set for royalty and the table settings like something seen in an exclusive restaurant along the Amalfi coast in Italy. Simply stated, they loved life and wanted to share the goodness and experiences of God's wonderful gifts of friendship with so many people. And they did it well.

Joan died unexpectedly on August 19, 2015. Ann did her best each day after Joan's death to redefine herself as a standalone and while it was not easy she continued to entertain and keep close to those in her life. This Christmas 2016 she planned a trip to change things up and venture back again to her much loved Italy. It was to be a month with close friends during the Christmas season and usher in the New Year. Tis' bittersweet that Ann's New Year is now eternal…shortly after arrival and a few days in Catania, Italy Ann fell sick and later died on December 21, 2016 in its local hospital. Surely a Christmas reunion for Ann as she joined her sister, Joan and their much loved parents, Paul and Emma (Vacca) Moreschi.

Born on April 27, 1935 she was a daughter of Italian immigrants and remained true and proud of her heritage. Raised and educated in Shrewsbury in her early years she worked with her father at his shop on Rt. 9, Moreschi Flowers. She graduated from UMASS Amherst and earned her master's degree from Worcester State College. Professionally, Ann taught in the Shrewsbury Public School System for 40 years. She began at Shrewsbury Junior High in the English department as a reading teacher. She transitioned to Shrewsbury High School where she continued to teach English. After retirement in 1998 she was a familiar face as a substitute teacher.

Social by nature she was involved and very active in many organizations including the Shrewsbury Garden Club. As a longtime member of the Shrewsbury Woman's Club she served as their secretary for many years and was dubbed 'secretary for life' from club members. She was an active member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Parish and was instrumental in the development and production of a cookbook which sold out at the Mount Carmel Family Festival. She was passionate about food and cooking and was known to travel to New York City, Vermont and even Montreal to go on food shopping adventures. Monday excursions with Ann and Joan were well known and they would travel wherever their fancy took them searching out new products in farmer's markets, food boutiques or off the beaten path family farms. Ann's love of cooking resulted in her doing a local television show on Italian cooking after which she produced a volume of recipes to share with family and friends. She also created a program called 'Cooking with Class' which she ran from her home. With 10 to 12 aspiring chefs enrolled at a time she would share her passion for the preparation, cooking and the eventual satisfaction of sampling their prepared foods. It was a wonderful evening of fun and food. Her lifelong love of Italy resulted in her making over a dozen trips to Italy and establishing relationships there which endured until her death. She also loved doing day trips to the casino and knitting for her family and friends.

Ann leaves several cousins including Richard P. Vacca of Worcester and a host of close friends.

Family and friends will honor and remember Ann's life by gathering for calling hours at Heald & Chiampa Funeral Directors ~ The Sumner House, 5 Church Road, On the Common, Shrewsbury Center on Saturday, January 7th from 9:00 to 10:30 a.m. before leaving in procession to Saint Mary's Church, 640 Main Street where her Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. Burial in Saint John's Cemetery will be private.
