Anne Joyce Roy, died January 25, 2012, after a courageous and unrelenting battle with Alzheimer's. Known to family and friends as Joyce, she was an incredible wife and mother, beloved granny and a special friend. Joyce was born in London, England on August 6, 1928 to Harry Grive and Alice Maude (Spooner) Grive, and was raised in a loving family which included her brother, Roy Grive who preceded her in death. Joyce is survived by her husband of nearly 60 years, Clarence C. (Bud) Roy; her sons, Phillip Roy and wife Susan Roy of Dallas, TX, and David Roy and wife Mary Anne of Virginia Beach, VA; and grandson, Kevin Roy, and granddaughter, Ashley Roy of Dallas, TX. Joyce leaves behind a large family of friends. She accumulated in excess of thirty years of Red Cross volunteer work both in Virginia Beach and Naples Italy. She was generous with her time, and never met a stranger. The Roy family would like to thank all of the friends, as well as all of the caregivers and medical personel who gave unselfishly of their time during her long battle with Alzheimer's and particularly Genella Byrd and Gilecia Reed. A celebration of Joyce's life, legacy, and lasting spirit will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, January 27, 2012, at Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Bayside Chapel. She will be dearly missed by all. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations in Joyce's memory be made to the Alzheimer's Association, Southeastern Virginia Office, 6350 Center Drive, Suite 102, Norfolk, VA 23502.
